Savory VS Sweet
I will admit, I have always been more of a savory than sweet person. Bearing that in mind, you are WAY more likely to see the bulk of my recipe posts are savory than sweet treats.
I am not a great baker, I do not have a sweet tooth, and I get pretty annoyed when I go to a blog site, having liked some savory recipe they have posted and hoping that they will have posted more equally as compelling recipes only to find that they are full of scones and pancakes and cookies of all sorts. I..just..don’t..care to see them. There are around 8k pancake recipes (exaggeration) out there, and while I occasionally, and only very occasionally, like pancakes, I just need a straightforward “this is how to make pancakes without Bisquick bc we all know you haven’t any and are too lazy to go get some” recipe. Sooooo, while I won’t tell you you won’t eventually get a pancake recipe from me, it will likely be titled: “Easy as Fuck Pancakes” and I’ll call it a day.
That is not to say I don’t enjoy sweet treats every once in a while, but they are not my strong suit when it comes to the creation of food art. I’m not really picky on sweets, I like vegan, non-vegan, gluten free, full of gluten, dairy free, full of dairy, sugar, sugar alternative, chocolate, berries, stone fruit, tropical fruit, citrus fruits, etc, etc, etc. My whole thing is, the more you make them, the more they are around, the more you eat them, the more you crave them, the more you make them and it goes full circle. I would rather eat a second helping of Rosemary Mashers with Roasted Brussel sprouts or something.
My mom used to be obsessed with Cooking Light (still is) and making all things “low fat” as was the custom in the 90’s and early 2000’s. She would make these two specific “low fat” cheesecakes when I was a kid that I am still obsessed with to this day.
Lemon Cheesecake with this lemon curd on top that I could seriously eat straight without the cheesecake. I remember the day she realized that it set much better if you baked it in a water bath and the rest was history!
Chocolate chip cheesecake with chocolate Nilla wafer crust. DROOOOLLLLLL. Which, actually sucks bc Nilla doesn’t make the chocolate version anymore so now I think my mom uses chocolate graham crackers and lets be honest it really isn’t AS good, still good! But not AS good.
Anyways, I digress. My main point is that I much prefer to cook savory, and so, if you are looking for sweet treats…..this may be the wrong place for you. So let me know if you are a sweet or savory person. Also let me know of all those “low fat” recipes both sweet and savory that stuck out to you as a kid/adolescent. I love hearing what everyone grew up with.
Check out my recipes tab and let me know if you have tried something out!
