Basic Mushroom Broth

Homemade broth: adjust ingredients for amount you’re trying to make. This makes between 6-8 cups.

  • 1-3 Carrots peeled and cut into 3” chunks

  • 2-5 Celery stalks washed and cut into 3” chunks

  • 1 tblsp kosher salt

  • 1 tblsp peppercorns

  • 1 handful of dried mushrooms

  • 1 Brown/yellow Onion peeled and cut into quarters

  • 3-5 garlic cloves peeled and crushed

  • Optional if you have them: 3-5 thyme sprigs, 1 single bay leaf, 1 single star anise

  • 6-8 cups of water

    • depending on what pot you are using

    • make sure there is enough water to cover all of the things in the pot

Instructions:

  1. For a quick boil, boil for 20-30 minutes.

  2. For a more full bodied flavor boil all for at least an hour.  

  3. Drain and sieve broth.

    1. Can save other items for your own purposes if desired
